Please join us for an in-gallery conversation with artist Harmonia Rosales and Dr. Helen Morales about Rosales’ debut book Chronicles of Ori: An African Epic (2025). While the original stories of the Orishas were passed down through traditional oral storytelling, in Chronicles of Ori Rosales presents a linear narrative framework, weaving age-old and her own ancestral knowledge to shape a sweeping and singular literary experience. The event will take place inside the Art, Design & Architecture Museum at UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025. A book signing will follow immediately after the discussion, and books will be available for purchase at the Museum.
Harmonia Rosales is an American artist from Chicago whose work depicts and honors African myths and the diaspora. Her artwork is held by numerous public and private collections across the United States. She lives in Los Angeles, California.
Helen Morales is the James and Sarah Argyropoulos Professor in Hellenic Studies at UC Santa Barbara. In 2022 she was the lead curator of the exhibition Harmonia Rosales: Entwined at UCSB’s Art, Design & Architecture Museum. It toured (with additional material) at the Brooks Museum of Art in Memphis Tennessee, and at Spelman College.
