Where integrity is interpreted as a threat to the community—how can Hypathia Applebaum prevail? In addition to her career as a writer of novels, short stories, critical essays and poetry which have earned for her a National Book Award, a National President’s Medal in the Humanities, and membership in the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Joyce Carol Oates’s plays that have been produced in the United States, France, Italy, and Canada.
