The Art, Design & Architecture Museum at UC Santa Barbara is proud to present Gemidos de la Tierra (Wailings of the Land/Soil) (2020–ongoing) by artist Jackie Amézquita as part of her exhibition at the AD&A Museum, on view through November 29.

Gemidos de la Tierra currently consists of twelve panels honoring the names of over 200 immigrants who have lost their lives while in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody between 2003 and 2023. On November 1, joined by her collaborators and community, Amézquita will publicly activate this work by continuing to add the names of those who have passed away since 2023.

Please join us in a public memorial for the hundreds of people who have died in ICE detention. This is a space for memory, dignity, and collective healing. Comfortable attire is encouraged; event will take place outdoors.

For accessibility accommodations, please contact us as soon as you can. Advance notice helps us fulfill your request.
